2023 is going to be a great year! Here are some predictions I have for social media this year. I am hopeful that they help you create your plan and your strategy for 2023. Take a deep breath, there isn’t anything that’s going to scare you. My predictions are mostly just an amplified version of things we saw in 2022.
More Video Content
My first prediction is that there will be more video content. We’ve seen this with YouTube, which is kind of funny. YouTube, having already been a video platform, has created even more avenues for video with YouTube shorts. Pinterest’s Idea Pins have been around for awhile, but nonetheless puts a lot of emphasis on them. Last year, Facebook released reels. We saw Instagram really dive headfirst into the whole spectrum of videos. With everybody really getting into video marketing, I wouldn’t be surprised if Twitter comes out with something too. Then there’s the educational/professional type platform, LinkedIn. I see them coming out with something like mini workshops or webinars that they would host.
What this means for you…
I hate to be the bearer of bad news if you’ve been hiding behind static posts for your marketing. Video isn’t going anywhere. If anything, it’s going to be amplified. This is your sign and encouragement to get on video!
More Authenticity
Gone are the days of heavily filtered, curated, and very meticulously put together feeds. We’re seeing more of an authentic approach today. Authentic and real behind the scenes content. People have even begun to start calling out the filtered look.
What this means for you…
If you’re a business owner, an entrepreneur, an influencer, or content creator, people are wanting to see what makes you tick. They want to see behind the scenes content in an onlookers perspective. Give the behind the scenes sneak peek. Share what your day to day looks like. Be honest and authentic with your content.
Influencer Marketing
I foresee influencer marketing really skyrocketing in 2023. We’ve already seen it grow in the past years and become massive in 2022. I feel like in the last couple of years, people haven’t really taken influencer marketing as a profession very seriously. However, I feel like the tides are turning. Brands have really caught on to the fact that they can save so much money when they work with content creators.
What this means for you…
If you’re a content creator or influencer, even though brands are able to save money by working with a content creator, you could still get paid a good amount of money for your work. When you think about how much a brand has to pay for content, they are having to pay for the camera crew, editing crew, actors, the set, the materials, screenwriters, copywriters. All of that would be an easy five figures for a commercial when they could hire you, a content creator, with a trusting audience at a much more affordable and reasonable price.
Grand Reopening
I’m seeing that a lot of businesses that were affected by the pandemic are opening back up and are facing the challenges of needing to hire. We’re needing to hire enough people to staff our businesses and keep up with our social media and digital marketing that made a big impact on businesses through the pandemic and lock downs. I see there being a big surge in not only hiring in-person, but remotely as well.
What this means for you…
If you are one that wants to work from home, this is great news for you! Businesses that had to put their employees on a remote work status during the pandemic, are going back to in-person working. This means that those spots that they’re leaving behind in their digital marketing and social media marketing spaces, need to be filled. This is great for those wanting to work from home, like being a Virtual Assistant.
Instagram vs TikTok
The battle between Instagram and TikTok is going to continue. Those that say Instagram is dying couldn’t be any further from the truth. Instagram is actually doing the opposite by continuing to grow. With the many changes and growth, many of us are annoyed and just want Instagram to be Instagram. They’ve heard our feedback though. That’s why the static photo posts are not going anywhere. They’re just building on top of what they already have, but also know that video content is the future and they’re not going to ignore that.
What this means for you…
Instagram in the end still has more registered users and both apps are trying to take on the Be Real App approach where its users are posting “in the moment”. As much as I love social media marketing, there are a lot of glitches that cause shutdowns and other threats of bans. As business owners, we do not own our social media accounts and that could very much affect our businesses. I can’t stress enough to take the time to build yourself an email list or a website of sorts where you can have something that you own. Somewhere that your current and future clients can visit and have access to you that is outside of social media.
Value is King
No matter what type of content is out there, whether it be static posts, carousels, reels, blogs or on different platforms, value will always be king. What I mean by that is when you’re scrolling on an app, the hook is the opening line that catches your attention. Value is subjective, it’s different to every person. However, what hooks somebody is that first couple of seconds and then the value of that video or post continues to pull them in. That initial hook. The content right at the beginning. That is always going to reign supreme no matter what type of content it’s being showcased.
Get excited about this new year! Your business is going to do so well!
I can feel it in my bones.
I’m looking to do more guest interviews on my podcast, so I can continue to bring my listeners and followers new and different perspectives, testimonials, and stories they can resonate with. So if you want to take a moment to send me a message or slide into my DMs on Instagram, I’d love for you to share what you want to hear in 2023.
