Feeling aligned has been a topic coming up a lot in my world lately. I’ve talked about it with members inside of my Fierce Social Society membership and have seen a lot of people talking about it on podcasts and socials.
I’ve had a lot of growth in this last year with mindset and feeling aligned in what I’m doing. There have been a few times this year that I feel like I’m really getting very clear and very focused on what that alignment and purpose should be for me.
I had an FSS member ask during a Hot Seat Coaching call, “how do you know when you’re in alignment or not?” Such a great question! A lot of understanding alignment and purpose is trying things and figuring out what makes you feel like that’s where you are meant to be. Then there’s other times where you’ll feel like, nope, that’s not for me at all.
Are You Aligned or Not?
When you feel really good about what you’re doing, the content you’re creating, the people that you’re serving. That’s when you are going to feel most aligned with your purpose. If you find that something just feels off, then you are not in alignment and need to get on track.
Three signs you might not be aligned:
- If doors and opportunities don’t seem as abundant
- If you’re no longer excited to get up and do your work or constantly feeling stuck
- You’re burnt out all the time
Don’t Confuse Being Unaligned With Redirection
I believe God closes doors that we are just not meant to go through and redirects us. That’s different from opportunities just not being as abundant as they used to be. So it’s important to decipher between the two. Is God just closing a door because I should redirect, or are we closing doors and shutting down because this is not what I should be doing?
I want you to be able to identify the difference because it could affect the future of your business. I have seen a lot of entrepreneurs and small businesses decide way too early to leave what they’ve built. They felt like that’s what they should do instead of just pivoting.
Ultimately it is a personal choice to decide to walk away because it is no longer what you feel like you should be doing. If that is the case, it’ll become very apparent to you versus when you’re just feeling burnt out.
Feeling Aligned
When you are really clear on your content pillars, who you serve and how you serve them, things just start to open up. Content starts flooding your brain and just comes so much easier. There’s a reason why people experience that alignment versus trying to do everything and anything.
I remember someone saying to me once that she had a piece of content go viral and decided she’d go with that. In her case, it was something she actually liked doing and was excited about it. It made sense for her to focus on that moving forward.
Go From Unaligned to Feeling Aligned
How do you get in alignment? The way I would figure this out for myself is I would take a step back and take a break to be really intentional with reflection. If you don’t take that break to really reflect, you’re not going to get to the root of where you steered wrong.
Right now is the best time of the year to do this reflection. January is going to be a new year. I encourage you to take the time to reflect. Review your last year and what you did, didn’t do, what you want to do better and what you want to leave behind this coming year.
